Catherine Sweeney

Catherine Sweeney paints urban landscapes and florals in a style that can be defined as Contemporary Representational Realism, with strong Impressionist and graphic influences. Her own photographs, often made walking the streets of Manhattan, serve as references for her paintings, with scenes saturated in contrasts of light, shadow and color. A dark background or large negative space frames brightly depicted subjects, giving an intensity to ordinary scenes.
